“Every work of love brings a person face to face with God“. This quote by Mother Teresa aptly describes the day we set aside for celebrating and honoring mothers.
Mother’s Day always evokes a range of emotions for a variety of reasons. Some celebrate the wonderful mother they have in their lives, the grandmother of their children, the confidante and much more. Some are engulfed in deep sadness since they no longer have their mom around or live far from their moms. Others experience longing, wishing they would have had a kind and loving mother. Still others lost their mother at a young age, some never knew their mother and some even suffered the loss of their mom on the day dedicated to all mothers. Equally important, many of us have also witnessed their siblings as wonderful mothers, have been blessed with wonderful stepmothers, or have incredible friendships with strong women who live the goodness and wisdom of motherhood in a variety of ways. Whatever our experience, each of us can name the attributes of motherhood, ranging from faithfilled, supportive, patient, humble, kind, simple, forgiving, tolerant, humorous, understanding, respectful, hopeful, and of course, witnessing to unconditional love!
Unconditional love is so empowering and in a very real way, shares a glimpse of the face of God with us, when we experience unconditional love. So, I thought you all might enjoy this version of a song by Celine Dion. The song is dedicated to mothers and surely reflects the love we have for mothers and all the women who exemplify God’s unconditional love for us.
