Mission 78 Days Four and Five
Day Four
Wednesday was another busy day. All the teams reported full schedules. We skipped our usual meeting to have dinner at Billy Ray's, a restaurant that has become a tradition on our trips, followed by ice cream. Nineteen of us attended, including Courtney and Evan—a mother and son from Virginia who joined CAP for a week of service.
After dinner, most of the group gathered to talk for about an hour, while others played a round of Taboo organized by Lily. It was also Mary and Rob Bashaw's anniversary—a meaningful choice to spend it serving others.
Day Five
The final day of service for Mission 78 is always bittersweet. Just as you settle into the rhythm of serving and deepen bonds with your team, you feel the pull to return home to family and loved ones.
The final day is hectic—finishing projects, hoping to complete one last task, and squeezing in final conversations with your crew, assistant crew leader, homeowner, or fellow team members. One team even managed a small birthday celebration for Lily and Amelia.
Reflecting on the trip, it felt comfortingly familiar: old friends strengthening bonds through shared service, and strangers from just a week ago exchanging stories as if they were lifelong companions. Serving together made these connections possible. Responding to God's call frees us from worldly expectations and guides us to the path He has set before us.
To our CAP friends—Kelli, Linda, Betty, Loretta, Dwight, Josh, Tom, o
our newest friend Duck Duck—and the three families who welcomed us into their homes: Thank you for your kindness, faith, and service, and for making this another special week.
To Ben, Steve, Rob, Mary, Beth, Brayden, Brenna, Allen, Dave, John, Caleb, Ron, Laci, Lily, Amelia, and Doug: Thank you for answering God's call and opening your hearts to those in need. May His love and mercy strengthen your faith and inspire you to continue saying yes to His plan for your life.
God bless, and see you again next year.
