Special plea for our brothers and sisters in affected by Hurricane Melissa:

Jane Goodall once said, “ Hope is what enables us to keep going in the face of adversity. It is what we desire to happen, but we must be prepared to work hard to make it so.”

How does one find hope when their child has been buried in mud or washed away by flooding?  How does one find hope when your life has continually been battered and torn apart by extreme poverty, political turmoil, disastrous earthquakes and catastrophic hurricanes?

For each of us, we find, live and breathe “hope” differently. Yet, the human community must also be the bearer of Hope, the bridge builder of compassion and kindness.  We are called to not just hear the beatitudes read in our churches, but to make sure our actions reflect the call of the beatitudes. It’s difficult to see devastation all around you and also hear, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of God”.  That’s where you and I come in….

And so, that is why we are reaching out to you and asking for your monetary support for the southern part of Haiti, which has suffered the impact of Hurricane Melissa yesterday, not to mention all the other long term elements of suffering over the years.

The Mission of Hope has provided care and comfort, compassion and Hope during previous earthquakes, hurricanes, and starvation for over 22 years and we have a vetted contact and “mission ambassador” on the ground in Haiti. (Jonathan LaMare)

Our appeal will be to collect funds specifically so that Jonathan can share closure and Hope by providing what is needed to bury those who perished yesterday during Hurricane Melissa, the vast majority being infants and children.

Some have also asked us about collecting for Jamaica. At this time, we do not have a vetted Mission ambassador of Hope on the ground in Jamaica, but please stay tuned for future announcements should that change.

If you can contribute, please visit our website;   www.ncmissionofhope.org to pay with credit card, Venmo or PayPal.  Or a check can be mailed to No Co Mission of Hope, 3452 Route 22, Peru, NY  12972.  Please note "Haiti" in the memo or when sending electronically.

In Jane Goodall’s final public address, she said:   "I would say I was somebody sent to this world to try to give people hope in dark times, because without hope, we fall into apathy and doing nothing". She urged people to "not give up," because "each and every one of you has a role to play" and "your life matters".  Please join us in sharing hope in dark times while witnessing to the Gospel of love and compassion.
