We wanted to provide a brief update with a few photos regarding relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Helene.
First, to date, we have received $7047.52 in monetary donations as of today, Monday, October 7th. We will continue to accept your donations via check or Venmo or via PayPal on our website. Please flag them for Hurricane Helene.
Below are some key photos, sent by Carol Herring, of Mule trains being used in NC to access the areas where people continue to be trapped and/or unaccounted for. These pictures are worth a thousand words.
Efforts are underway, and relief through your donations has already reached those in great need and desperation.
Our contributions will be focused on two locations thanks to our ability to vet trustworthy contacts. Those two locations will be Northwest NC, especially in the mountainous and remote regions where Carol Herring is our Ambassador of Hope.
We are also assisting the far western corner of SC. Our Ambassador of Hope (via Mission traveler and supporter Nicole Groleau), is Rev. Gerald Clinkscales. He covers the AME Methodist churches in Ninety Six, Saluda, and McCormick, SC. These three villages are very rural and extremely poor communities, mostly of elderly people. The needs in both locations are quite similar- food, water, basic survival needs, etc.
Your donations and prayers enable us to be a presence of HOPE in what would otherwise be, a hopeless and catastrophic situation. Thank you for compassionate support and your prayers. And as I write this, I am painfully aware that another major hurricane is bearing down on Florida within a day or so. Please join me in praying that the impact will be far less than what is being predicted and that people will need the calls to evacuate as needed.
Please join us in the following prayer: “Creator of all, we ask you to comfort the grieving, and bless all those who are reaching out to help their brothers and sisters. Give our rescuers strength and courage as they work to rescue and rebuild. And please give peace to those who have yet to be found and rescued, or who have suffered immense loss…may they find comfort in you and their fellow human beings. Amen.”
